Best Lines for Firing Your Boss!

Picture this: Your new venture is up and running and revenues are looking good. You’re ready to fire your boss. What will you say?

I’ve helped a large number of folks get to this point over the years, and they’ve fired their boss. Here are some of the best lines I’ve heard them use (or at least want to use):

  • As much as I’ve appreciated the opportunity to waste away in a tiny cubicle, I’m moving to a bigger space in my own company.

  • I won’t be able to attend Friday’s pointless meeting or finish that report that will just sit in everyone’s inbox. I’m off to run my own business now.

  • It’s been fun doing everyone’s work and getting no credit. But, I’m off to run my own business now where I’ll get paid for the true value I bring to the table.

  • Someone’s going to have to cover for me this weekend and the next and the next. I’m running my own business and giving myself weekends off!

  • You know that raise that’s been “in the works” for the last six months? Well, I don’t need it anymore. I launched my own company and am making more money than I ever could here.

  • Want to outsource my job? Go for it! I’ve launched my own company that can’t be done half as well for half as much in another country.

  • I know I’ve been “lucky to keep my job,” as you’ve said, but I’m going to pass on sweating out another round of layoffs. I’m my own boss now. You might want to give me a call if the layoffs don’t turn out well for you.

  • Remember that family of mine that I only see on holidays? I’m off to reacquaint with them while I run my own business.

  • Take this job and … (you know the rest!)

Want to add to this list? Email me your best line for firing your boss and I’ll post it if I can.

All joking aside, I don’t truly advocate burning bridges on your way out the door. You never know how former colleagues might play a role in your new venture.
